Hi 🙂
I am using the HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook which has a SIM slot. I slotted the new SIM card I've got into the sim card slot.
How can I activate the internet connection? I can't find any option like cellular network, cellular data or mobile data.
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot in advance! 🙂

Hi:
Every HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook has a SIM card slot.
What 90% of them don't have is the optional and expensive WWAN adapter that is needed to connect to a cellular network.
The SIM card just authorizes you to use a specific carrier's network.
Below is the link to the service manual.
Chapter 3 has the list of supported WWAN cards with their HP part numbers.
In order to connect to a cellular network your notebook must have one of these model WWAN cards showing up in the device manager under the Network Adapters device manager category.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
Intel XMM 7360 LTE-Advanced (Cat 9)
Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 LTE + 5G
You would have to find and purchase one of those WWAN adapters and install it if your notebook does not have the optional WWAN adapter.

Hi
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?
I have HP EliteBook 840 G8 and additionally bought both cards
- Intel XMM 7360 LTE-Advanced (Cat 9)
- Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 LTE + 5G
None work, there is no activation menu in the BIOS.
Updated all drivers when available on the https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/hp-elitebook-840-g8-notebook-pc/38216725 page
Reinstaled Windows 11 and also to Windows 10
There are still no cards available in Device Manager of Windows 11- yes laptop has WWAN slot on the board. The cables for the antenna are in the original
Who can I contact for help? Local HP support can only tell you what needs to be bought, and not possible reasons why it doesn't work.

Ok for starts....just don't. Instead use a nice phone teathered with a usb-c cable because they all have FR 2 capable antenna. And this matters. Your HP 840 G8 has compatibility with two WWAN cards and comes with a sim pass through. So your sim is slotted into a empty m.2 slot. Back to the two options. Option one is the x55 snapdragon and they can't wait to tell you everything it can do. Don't bother the chassis doesn't have an FR2 antenna and will perform in the real world far better with the Fibocom card that only has 2 antenna connection points and matches the G8. The Fibocom doesn't support E-sim the x55 does so if your sim card slot dies like mine did. The x55 is your only choice. Also windows lacks a switch to disable 5G so again just use a phone and skip the hassle. Because you will eventually dead end with the nicest fastest most useless internet ever with no stability. Once someone makes a 4x mimo u.lf FR2 antenna you can buy the x55 will provide up to 7.5 Gbps. OK I think that's all feel free to ask questions I own all the mentioned hardware
