Hello,
I have an old laptop HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g005nx
The wifi card is broadcom bcm43142 and it's malfunctioning (very slow speed, disconect too much, doesn't show avalabile networks, etc)
I was searching for replacment wifi card that supports 5GHZ network (i guess it's mini pcie wifi adapter), and each website say it doesn't support HP laptops (something regarding "whitelist BIOS" i think)
I'm not an expert, so i need help:
-is it possible to upgrade for better wifi card?
-if yes, is there any restrictions?
Thanks!

Hi:
If the Wi-Fi adapter had two antenna wires connected to it, you can upgrade to this model Wi-Fi card.
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0 HP Part # 710661-001
The card has a maximum throughput of 867 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi band.
You should be able to find the above model card on eBay.
Search by the HP part number not the model of the Wi-Fi card.
If there was only one antenna connected to the Broadcom card, you won't be able to upgrade to a dual band card.

Hi,
1- thank you so much for help, your a legend!
2- yeah, I'm sure it has 2 antenna
3- Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 in my country is priced about 100$ which is too much for an old laptop, (i can't buy from eBay due to customs regulations in my country), is there any alternative card i can buy?
4- will this card work? https://www.amazon.ae/Wireless-Transferring-Browsing-Internet-Downloading/dp/B091GQMHPF/ref=sr_1_7?c...
Thanks again!

You're very welcome.
It should be able to, though it provides no description of what model card it is.
It seems to only be a dual band wireless N card because of the 300 MBPS max throughput, but it still beats the max throughput of 72 MBPS you're getting from the Broadcom card.
Can you buy from Ali Express or are you still restricted due to customs?
I think this part number would also work.

Thanks again!
The HP manual for my laptop says this:
So I'm a little bit confused, I think I will try my luck with the card that I have shown you, if it's really can get 300 it will be better than 20-30 I'm getting right now.
I can buy from Ali express but for example the card you listed cost 12.5$ + customs fees 42$ + shipping 69.5$ , which is very expensive unfortunately.

You're very welcome.
Something is not right.
When I google that 7265 AC part number, all I see are M.2 form factors.
The Broadcom card you posted in your screenshot is definitely the older HMC (Half Mini Card) form factor.
Now if you have not actually opened up your notebook to check the form factor of the card, and how many antenna wires are actually connected to it, now is the time to do so.
You cannot leave this up to guesswork.
I found another 17-g0xx notebook on the HP part surfer site, and it definitely comes with a M.2 Broadcom card, not HMC.
So, we are back to square 1.
If your notebook has two antenna wires connected to the Broadcom M.2 card, you can upgrade to the Intel 7265 card listed in the manual.
If your notebook only has one antenna wire, since it appears to support M.2 cards, there is one dual band AC card you can upgrade to and that is this one:
Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1×1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP Part # L17365-005.
Where you will be able to find this card in Jordan, unfortunately I have no idea since I have only seen them on eBay or Ali Express.
