Is it safe to leave HP wireless mouse receiver stay plugged all the time? Then just switch mouse on & off?

Yes, leave the USB mouse receiver plugged in.

Leaving the received connected also reduces the chance you will lose it.

Yes, use mouse on/off switch to switch off the mouse when not in use.

@Dragon-Fur thank you for the feedback 🙂

so it won’t compromise my laptop security by leaving the receiver plugged in 24/7?

You are welcome.

Of course there are not any guarantees.   Just about anything with a pulse of energy and a transmitter can be compromised.

What impacts the relative risk?

Considerations might include the kind, type, brand, vintage of USB receiver, the extent to which your general network, machines, location are at risk, your general level of concern over cyber attacks ruining your life,   In other words, you are more or less at risk of data loss and infiltration based on where you live and work, how you use your technology, the level at which you have protected your devices, the actual benefit derived by that security (good, poor, indifferent).

If the mouse includes updates / drivers, keep the unit updated.

Read what you can find - decide what you need to do based on more than what I say.

My personal opinions are just that, opinions.

Regardless, if you are concerned, remove USB receiver when you are not using it.  Best have a place to keep it - inside the mouse is good if the mouse provides a tiny compartment.  All else fails, tape the thing to the computer.  The point is to not lose the USB receiver.

Stay Safe.
