Hi @wheels53,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 printer does not support entering special symbols like a star (*) directly on its touchscreen keyboard. To resolve this issue, you have a few options:

1. Use the HP Smart App for Wi-Fi Setup

  • Download and install the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer.
  • Open the app and add your printer.
  • During the setup process, you can enter your network password, including special characters, using your device's keyboard.

2. Use WPS Push Button Method

If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):

  • On the printer, go to Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).
  • Choose Push Button.
  • Press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes to connect the printer without requiring the password.

3. Change the Wi-Fi Password (if possible)

  • If you can change your network password to exclude special characters like *, do so temporarily.
  • Reconnect your devices with the new password and reconfigure the printer.
  • After setup, you can revert to the original password.

4. Connect Using HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Temporarily connect your printer to your computer via USB.
  • Access the Embedded Web Server by entering the printer's IP address in a web browser.
  • Navigate to the Network Settings section and manually configure the Wi-Fi connection, including entering the password with the *.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
