I have an HP Laser MFP281fdw. I can print from my iPhone (iOS 17.5.1) and iMac (Ventura 13.6.7), but I can not print from my MacBook Pro (Sonoma 14.5). It seems to "jam" when I hit "Print."

Hi @KLOSTERPERSON,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues printing from your MacBook Pro to your HP Laser MFP281fdw, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Printer Connection

Restart Devices: Restart your MacBook Pro, printer, and wireless router to refresh their connections.

Verify Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure your MacBook Pro is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer. Sometimes, connectivity issues can prevent printing.

2. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

Update Printer Firmware: Visit the HP Support website, enter your printer model (MFP281fdw), and download the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions provided to update the printer's firmware.

Update Printer Drivers: Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your MacBook Pro. You can download them from the HP Support website as well.

3. Reset Printing System (Mac)

  1. Reset Printing System:
    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers on the left sidebar and choose Reset printing system.
    • Confirm the action and restart your MacBook Pro.
    • Re-add your printer by clicking the + button and selecting your HP Laser MFP281fdw.

4. Check Print Queue and Settings (Mac)

Check Print Queue:

  • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP printer from the list on the left and click Open Print Queue.
  • Clear any stuck print jobs and try printing again.

Set Default Printer: Ensure your HP printer is set as the default printer on your MacBook Pro.

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) on your HP printer and select Set as default printer.

5. Test Printing

  1. Print Test Page: After making adjustments, try printing a test page from your MacBook Pro to check if the issue is resolved.

Additional Tips:

Firewall and Security Software: Temporary disable any firewall or security software on your MacBook Pro to see if they are blocking the printing process.

HP Smart App: Consider using the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store to manage and troubleshoot printer connections.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
