Microsoft Windows 11

I already tried updating the drivers but I don’t seem to even have a wifi thing in the network adapter. I already tried to troubleshoot but I only get that I am using a virtual network adapter that they can’t test.

Hi @Ana332

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your Wi-Fi adapter isn't showing up after the Windows 11 update, and you're also seeing a virtual network adapter issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully fix the problem:

1. Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Network adapters section. If your Wi-Fi adapter is missing, it may be due to a driver issue or a disabled device.
  • If you see a Virtual Network Adapter or Other devices with a warning icon, that may be the cause of your issue.

What to do:

  • If you see a missing Wi-Fi adapter, right-click on the Other devices section and select Scan for hardware changes to check if Windows detects the network adapter again.
  • If you see a yellow triangle or error symbol, right-click on the device and choose Update driver or Uninstall device, then restart your computer. After restart, Windows might automatically reinstall the network adapter.

2. Re-enable the Network Adapter

  • Sometimes after an update, the Wi-Fi adapter can be disabled.
  • In Device Manager, find your Wi-Fi adapter under Network adapters, right-click it, and select Enable.
  • If the device is already enabled, try disabling and enabling it again.

3. Update Network Adapter Drivers

  • If Windows 11 doesn't automatically update drivers, you can manually update them.
  • Go to the Network adapter section in Device Manager, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter, and choose Update driver.
  • If Windows doesn't find a newer driver, go to the manufacturer's website for your Wi-Fi adapter (e.g., Intel, Realtek, Broadcom, etc.) and download the latest driver version for Windows 11.
  • Install the new driver and restart your PC.

4. Uninstall and Reinstall Network Adapter

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Uninstall device.
  • After the uninstallation, restart your computer. Windows should automatically detect the Wi-Fi adapter and reinstall the necessary drivers.
  • If this doesn’t work, download the latest drivers manually from the manufacturer's website and install them.

5. Check Windows Network Settings

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
  • Scroll down and click Network Troubleshooter. Even though you’ve tried troubleshooting, it can sometimes offer additional fixes.
  • Check if your Wi-Fi is listed in the available networks section.

If Wi-Fi is still missing, try resetting network settings:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset (scroll down).
  • Click Reset now and restart your computer.

6. Check for Windows Updates

  • Sometimes, additional patches or fixes are released after major updates.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for any available updates.

7. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • In rare cases, the Wi-Fi adapter might be disabled at the BIOS/UEFI level, especially after a major update. Check your BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure the Wi-Fi adapter is enabled.
  • To enter BIOS/UEFI, restart your computer and press the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, ESC, or DEL) during boot.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
