Hi @Smartyaanan

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP G5 Chromebook is having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, even after a Powerwash.

Since it works with your phone's hotspot, the issue might be related to your home Wi-Fi network or the Chromebook's settings. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

1. Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi

  • Click on the time in the bottom-right corner of your Chromebook.
  • Select Settings > Network > Wi-Fi.
  • Click on your Wi-Fi network and select Forget Network.
  • Reconnect to the Wi-Fi by entering the password again.

2. Check Router Settings

  • Restart your router and modem.
  • Ensure your router is broadcasting on a 2.4 GHz band, as some Chromebooks may have trouble with 5 GHz networks.
  • Check if MAC address filtering is enabled on your router. If it is, add your Chromebook's MAC address to the allowed list.

3. Reset Network Settings

  • On your Chromebook, go to Settings > Advanced > Reset Settings.
  • Select Reset Network Settings to clear any corrupted configurations.

4. Update Chrome OS

  • Ensure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS:
    • Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for Updates.

5. Test with Another Wi-Fi Network

  • Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network (e.g., at a cafe or friend's house) to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with your Chromebook or your home network.

6. Boot in Recovery Mode

  • Turn off your Chromebook.
  • Press and hold Esc + Refresh (the circular arrow key) and then press the Power button.
  • Release all keys when you see the recovery screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset or recover your device.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
