I just purchased an HP 14-dq0052dx. I need to connect it via cable/wire to a router. I have a desktop computer that's wired to my router. When I disconnect that wire and attempt to use it for this laptop nothing is happening. I am using this USB-to-ETHERNET device: amazon.com/dp/B0D1XVNTHJ and the cable is CAT 5E.
In doing some research, part of me thinks I may need to upgrade to CAT 6. I don't want to do that until somebody (from HP) tells me that it'll work (with the device mentioned above) as my CAT 5 wires total 150'. (Again, this wire is working with my desktop - and a smart TV - up here.)
Thanks!

150' probably is too long for USB. I can't setup an environment to test . Please use a short cable (say 16') and bring your machine closer the router to connect and test the adapter.
Regards.
