I recently purchased a Bluetooth speaker for my laptop (HP Pavilion G7 (g7-1033cl; LF161UA) using Windows 10 and a Broadcom 20702 Bluetooth 4.0 adapter). When I try to make the connection it works... for about 5 seconds and then just says it's paired, but no longer connected. I hit the 'Try Again' button and it says, "That didn't work. Make sure your Bluetooth device is still discoverable, then try again." So I did and got the same message.
After removing and reinstalling the speaker t several times, no luck. So I took the speaker back to the store and exchanged it for a new one. Same problem!
From what I've determined, it's the driver that's the issue. I can connect the speaker to my older Android phone, but not this computer.
HP does not seem to have ANY drivers for this computer using Windows 10 (major faux pas IMHO). Windows Update didn't have anything either. Nor did Broadcom, which just reverts me back to Windows Update.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂
As I understand you need the Bluetooth driver to make use of the Bluetooth speaker with you HP laptop,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you ever use Bluetooth on this device prior to attempting to connect the speakers?
Have you attempted to check if your device has a Bluetooth device/hardware?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:
I've verified your product specifications and I'm afraid this device doesn't have a Bluetooth device: Click here for details.
That said, if you connected an external adapter or USB dongle, you may want to check with alternate USB ports and follow the below steps to connect:
-
Make sure the device you want to connect to is discoverable. For instructions, see the section of this document titled Make sure Bluetooth is turned on and discoverable.
-
In Windows, search for and open Bluetooth and other devices settings.
The Settings window opens to the Devices screen.
-
On the Bluetooth & other devices tab, toggle the Bluetooth setting to On.
Figure : Turning on Bluetooth
-
Click Add Bluetooth or other device to start searching for the device.
