HP ENVY dv7-7270ca Notebook PC
Model #: C2H79UA
I would still like to update my laptop to work on the 5mhz wi fi band. Has there been any recent changes or updates to this question? The last time I checked the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN module 670691-001 was the one to try but I would like to know if it is still an option that will work or is there any other method that will work?
I need to upgrade to 5 mhz to take advantage of my internet service.

Hi @Todddo,
I read your post and thank you for your reply. We always recommend you to buy from HP as it is certified by HP for their computers, Tried, researched and tested. If you buy from a third party website you would do so at your own risk. Our parts store website Link:http://partsurfer.hp.com
Our shopping website is: http://store.hp.com
You could call these Phone numbers also, which are listed on the websites.
Please check these link out and that might be really useful: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-7260he-wireless-card-upgrade...

I would still request you to contact a local professional technician before upgrading so that other issues do not crop up with your computer
You will need a combo wifi card that supports both Bluetooth and wifi. Otherwise, your Bluetooth feature could disappear from your computer and you would need to use an external Bluetooth adapter.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I hope the issue gets resolved without
hassles and the unit works great. I'm always there to assist you. Please reach out anytime.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead.

Hi @bibiz,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I understand that you need assistance with a wifi that card supports 5Mhz or to upgrade to one that supports it.I will be delighted to assist you.
A commendable job was done by attempting great research before posting your question in the HP forums. It is always a great pleasure to work with tech-savvy customers like you. Kudos to you for that. We greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
I checked the product specifications of your computer and the Intel Centrino wifi adapter would be a good option because the processor is an Intel one. There should ideally be no conflicts if you go that route. However, I will include the service manual for supported wifi cards for your computer. Please check with a local technician before you upgrade the card as it should support 5Mhz.

Similar issue. I have an Intel Centrino 2230 based WLAN module that has only 2.4 GHz, which doesn't work well in my house. Based on testing, 5GHz works very well. The Technical Serivce Manual lists an option
"Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN module" with part number of 670691-001. Based on an Intel Spec Brief, this has 2.4GHz, 5.0 Ghz, and Bluetooth.
I ordered a used HP WLAN module 670691-001 off of an auction site. I chose this over ordering a specific Intel Centrino 6230 WLAN module. The module that showed up is a Ralink RT-5390 based module, having only support for 2.4 GHz.
I went to HP Part Surfer and entered 670691-001 as the part number, but only got hits on the Ralink based WLAN module, which is useless for me.
This thread and the Service Manual both list the 670691-001 part number as an Intel 6230 WLAN module. What gives?
Quesions:
1) So where do I get the Intel 6230 based WLAN module and what would it's part number be?
2) How come there are two different parts with the same part number?
3) There are lots of used Intel 6230 WLAN modules for sale on auction sites. Some of the comments claim that only an official HP part will work as there is an ID code that is branded into the part. Can I use a generic 6230 module in my PC? Some people claim to have success with this. I can get one for $12 and would prefer that over $40 from HP, provided that the HP piece even exists.

Thank you,

I ordered the 6230 and received it as scheduled. Plugged it in and it worked immediatley and I now have the 5MHZ band and fast download that my provider said I would. Everything is working as it should.
