Is the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX201 (2x2) wireless card backward compatible to Wi-Fi 5 a/b/g/n/ac?

When I got my first HP notebook that came with an AX wifi adapter (the Intel AX200), I had the same question.
Would it work with an older router and yes, it works fine.
If you have a decent Wi-Fi 5 router, the AX201 card will have a maximum throughput of 867 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi band.
I went out and bought a Wi-Fi 6 router because I was due for an upgrade.
