Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I have the following laptop:

HP-Pavilion-15-cx0056wm

I have Windows 10 x1903 with latest drivers, from HP, and I installed the Intel Support Assistant and it shows I'm up-to-date.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html

When I shut down and power back up, wifi network connects correctly to my Wifi network (802.11ac Netgear NIghthawk R7000), WPA2 AES 5GHz. When I put the laptop into standby, and then resume from standby, it shows NO wifi networks at all (not only not mine, but not my neighbors either). I have to go into device manager, disable the Wifi adapter, then re-enable, then I can see the wireless networks.

I do not see any BIOS settings for S3 or such for wifi card.

@RobNC Here's a guided troubleshooter that will help fix this issue: Click here

Try these steps:

Go to Device manager > select the WIFI drivers under network adapter> Right click go to properties  > Under properties go to Power Management Tab> Uncheck  "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

If issue persists, continue with the below steps:

  • If your computer has a wireless key or button on or near the keyboard and the wireless activity light is off or amber in color, then press the key or button to enable your wireless adapter. This key might be the F10 key, F12 key or labeled with a symbol of an airplane.
  • If wireless activity comes on or the activity light turns blue, you have enabled wireless on your system. Try connecting to the Internet again.

Hello, thanks for your fix attempt. I do not feel that I should have to modify the default configuration of the wifi drivers; perhaps if it was some unknown or sketchy wifi driver, maybe, but this is Intel, they have been doing power management with Wifi for at least a decade or more, so I must assume one of the following is the culprit:

1) The newer driver (WiFi_21.30.3_Driver64_Win10.exe) downloaded using Intel's driver auto-detect and install utility, is incompatible with the Intel 802.11ac WiFi 9560 card, as configured, in this HP laptop

2) I must use the older driver from HP: sp92246.exe which contains 20.90.0.7 Rev.P dated 10/11/2018

The other steps suggested will use more power and thus not be advisable from a power management performance. I did see another article that stated to disable S3 for the wifi card, but the HP BIOS has no options for this.

I will try to revert to the older driver version and report back the results.

The WiFi driver I mentioned above is available via the link below:

@RobNC The steps suggested have helped resolve issues with other user's devices, that said, if you wish to try an older driver version, please do and get back to us with the results at your own pace,

Take care and good luck.

Hello, BTW I did revert to the older driver, guess what... it works correctly when resuming from sleep (for 8 hours). I know that disabling power savings for wifi may have worked but at the sacrifice of battery life while sleeping, which is the whole point of the Centrino chipset in the first place.

@RobNC The battery life isn't impacted in a big way, in fact the changes are not even noticeable, so you can go ahead and make those changes to resolve the issue permanently,

Let me know if you've done that and you still have any issues.
