I have been having internet connection issues. After many failed attempts of tech support with my ISP they stated that my laptop and1 of my sons laptop can not handle 5G. My router is a 2g/5g and it chooses and these 2 laptops won't connect to 5G. However my other sons will. Is this BS? I have 400mb internet.

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06406388
It only has 802.11b/g/n (1x1) Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 4.2 combo (one antenna) adapter which supports 2.4GHz networks only. You should be able to replace it using the following adapter
Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac 1 × 1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 part # L17365-005
