I have 250 Mbps service witch is ok on other computers on the same desktop switch but my laptop wil not download above 90 Mbps on this laptop. Is there a hardware limitation perhaps?

Hi:

Yes, probably so.

What model wifi adapter does your notebook have?

I'll let you know what its maximum connection speed is.

HP Recommended

I have a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 Wifi adapter

Hi:

You are getting more out of that card then I believe it is rated at.

The max connection speed should only be 75 MBPS.

Go to the windows control panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center, and click on the wifi connection shown on the right side of the window.

It should show you the maximum connection speed there.

The maximum connection speed will vary based on the signal strength.

It showed me 100 Mbps. I'm hard wired by the way. Thank you so much for your help. It's reasuring to know you are here.

You're very welcome.

OK...I thought you were on wireless.

So, you are getting 90 out of 100 which is very good also.

Some models have the gigabit ethernet adapter that connects at 1 GB/S (1000 MB/S).

If yours is connecting at 100 MBPS, then it is a Fast ethernet adapter.
