Hey. I would like some assitance with troubleshooting why my laptop is unable to detect my LAN and WLAN adapters. I have installed the drivers from the latest drivers support page to no success. I have also recently installed the latest chipset, bios, and rst storage drivers. Just seems odd like these two would be the only things not working on the motherboard. This was recently purchased.

Hi @Sunzleague,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how concerning it is when a newly purchased HP laptop like your HP 15-dw3033dx (405F6UA) fails to detect both LAN and WLAN adapters, even after installing the latest drivers and firmware. You're doing everything right by updating BIOS, chipset, and storage drivers. Let’s take this a step further together.

1. Run HP Network Diagnostics via HP Support Assistant

HP provides a built-in tool to detect and fix network adapter issues.

  • Download or open HP Support Assistant:
    🔗 HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
  • Open the app → Select your device → Click HP Network Check
  • Follow the prompts to run diagnostics on both wired and wireless adapters

If the adapters are missing or disabled, the tool will guide you through recovery steps.

2. Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (Offline Tool)

This tool checks if the LAN/WLAN hardware is physically functional.

  • Download: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support
  • After installation:
    • Go to Start > All Apps > HP Help and Support > HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows
    • Click Component Tests > Networking
    • Run both LAN and Wireless tests

If the test fails, it may indicate a hardware fault. If it passes, the issue is likely software-related.

3. Reinstall Network Adapters via Device Manager

Sometimes Windows doesn’t properly detect the adapters after updates.

  • Press Windows + X → Select Device Manager
  • Expand Network Adapters
  • If adapters are missing:
    • Click Action > Scan for hardware changes
    • If still not detected, go to View > Show hidden devices
  • If adapters appear but don’t work:
    • Right-click each → Uninstall device
    • Restart your laptop to reinstall them automatically

4. Confirm BIOS Settings

Ensure LAN/WLAN are enabled in BIOS:

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS
  • Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options
  • Make sure LAN and Wireless LAN are enabled
  • Save and exit

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
