I don't know what the problem is , because my router is close to me and I have bad wifi , but my brother has laptop too and he has no problem with internet and he is a bit far from me and router but has a better wifi , I am tired of trying to solve it because I have that problem about a 2 month , so I'm asking you to help me with it  please.

Hi @Sn1zyy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing high ping in online games can be frustrating. Here are some potential solutions to help you troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Check Network Settings

Wi-Fi Adapter Settings: Make sure your Wi-Fi adapter settings are optimized for gaming. You can do this by:

  • Going to Device Manager > Network Adapters > Your Wi-Fi Adapter > Properties > Advanced tab.
  • Adjust settings like roaming aggressiveness, and preferred band to best suit your network.

DNS Settings: Sometimes changing the DNS settings can improve your connection. Try using Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1).

Update Network Drivers

  • Ensure that your network drivers are up to date. Visit the HP support website or use the HP Support Assistant to check for the latest drivers.

Network Interference

  • Channel Interference: Wi-Fi channels can get crowded, especially in densely populated areas. Use a tool like Wi-Fi Analyzer to find a less congested channel for your router.
  • Physical Obstructions: Ensure there are no physical barriers between your laptop and the router that might be causing interference.

Router Configuration

  • Quality of Service (QoS): Enable QoS on your router to prioritize gaming traffic.
  • Firmware Update: Make sure your router's firmware is up to date.
  • Restart Router: Occasionally, routers benefit from a restart to clear any potential issues.

Test Connection on Ethernet

  • If possible, connect your laptop to the router using an Ethernet cable to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the Wi-Fi connection specifically.

Background Applications

  • Ensure no background applications are using significant bandwidth. You can check this using Task Manager or Resource Monitor.

Windows Network Reset

  • Sometimes a network reset can solve persistent issues:
    • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
    • Click on "Network reset" and follow the prompts.

Compare Network Configurations

  • Compare the network settings on your laptop with those on your brother’s laptop. Look for any differences in the network adapter settings, DNS configurations, and any special software he might be using.

Contact ISP

  • If none of the above solutions work, there might be an issue with your ISP. Contact them to see if there are any issues on their end or if they can offer any solutions.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and fix the cause of the high ping in your games.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
