From last few days, my laptop is unable to connect to the 5G Wifi network installed at my home. I have a dual band WIfi router which supports both 4G & 5G network. But my laptop connects to the 4G network only. I have set the preferred band as 5G in network adapter settings but it fails to connect to it. I have a Mediatek MT7921 WIFI 6 802.11ax PCIe Adapter in my laptop. So please provide a solution to this issue.

@Faraz224, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP Pavilion 14-dv2000 has a MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi 6 adapter, it should support 5GHz networks, and you've already set the preferred band to 5GHz — good step.
If the 5GHz network is no longer connecting but was working before, let’s go through a step-by-step checklist to isolate and resolve the issue:
Confirm 5GHz Network is Working on Other Devices
- Try connecting your phone or another laptop to the 5GHz band.
- If they can't see or connect either, the issue may be with your router's 5GHz signal, not your laptop.
Forget and Reconnect to 5GHz Network
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage Known Networks.
- Remove or “Forget” both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.
- Reconnect manually to the 5GHz SSID.
Check Router Settings
Log in to your router's admin panel (usually via 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
Ensure:
- 5GHz is enabled and broadcasting.
- SSID is different for 2.4GHz and 5GHz (e.g., MyWiFi_2.4G and MyWiFi_5G).
- Mode is set to 802.11ac or ax for 5GHz.
- Channel is not set to Auto; try setting a fixed channel like 36, 40, or 44.
Update or Reinstall the Wi-Fi Driver
- Go to Device Manager > Network Adapters.
- Right-click MediaTek MT7921 > Uninstall Device (check delete driver box if it appears).
- Reboot your PC — Windows should reinstall the default driver.
- OR download the latest driver from:
- HP Support Website
- OR MediaTek driver via Windows Update (search for optional updates).
Advanced Network Adapter Settings
- Go to Device Manager > Network Adapters > MediaTek MT7921 > Properties.
- Under Advanced tab, adjust the following:
- Preferred Band: Set to 5GHz.
- Wireless Mode or 802.11 Mode: Set to 802.11ax or Dual Band 802.11a/b/g.
- Channel Width for 5GHz: Set to Auto or 80MHz.
Power Management Settings
Still in Device Manager > Wi-Fi adapter > Properties > Power Management tab:
- Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
Reset Network Settings
If nothing works so far:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset.
- Click Reset now. Your PC will restart.
Windows Updates
Ensure Windows 11 is fully updated, including optional driver updates:
- Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates > Advanced options > Optional updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
