Out of the blue, my laptop stopped connecting automatically to my home wifi after waking or being turned on. It requires my router to be reset before it will connect. Even if I am connected to wifi, close my laptop and then immediately open it again, it will still need a router reset to connect. All of my other wireless devices (ipad, old laptop, google home, fireTV, kindle, smart plugs, etc) work fine on my home wifi (no reset needed). I can connect to my home internet via ethernet cable. I tested it today and my laptop will also connect to free wifi at my work or my phone's hotspot. I've already gone through uninstalling/reinstalling/updating the drivers. I haven't changed my router or internet for over a year, so that should not be the issue. My laptop's wireless network adapter is an Intel dual band wireless-AC 3168 (original hardware). It's running on the latest Intel driver (19.51.27.1). It won't update to the the HP driver (21.40.2.2 Rev.P). I've searched online, but I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue. I posted to the Intel support community and after troubleshooting, they directed me to HP. Help!

Hi @kat202

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the connectivity issue.

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Network Troubleshooter -

1) In the search box, type and open "Troubleshooter".

2) Click on "Network and Internet".

3) Click on "Internet Connections".

Step 2 Run Network commands -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.

2) At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:

Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.

Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

Step 3 Re-install the Network Adapter -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.

2) In Device Manager, select Network adapters > the network adapter name.

3) Right-click on the network adapter, and then select Uninstall device > Delete the driver software for this device check box > Uninstall.

4) Restart the computer.

Also, try updating the computer -

Step 4 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 5 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Thanks for your response. I've done all of your recommendations and my laptop still won't connect.

Does my wifi card need to be replaced?

@kat202

This could be an issue with the Wi-Fi card or antenna. I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
