I have an HP laptop (I think it's an envy? I don't know the actual model). Have had it for a couple years. I go to log in/use it today and it's saying no internet access, which is weird since my phone is connected to the same wifi and it's fine. I restart my laptop like I normally do when this happens and when it's done turning back on, I go to look at my wifi and the quick option to turn on and off the internet in my task bar has literally vanished. I see the circle saying I'm not connected, but I click on it and theres no option for wifi. I go through settings. There's literally no option to connect to wifi. I can only connect to a VPN, use a mobile hotspot, turn airplane mode on, set up a proxy, set up dial-up, and view advanced network settings. I try searching in the search bar. Nothing. I try searching my device management thing. Nothing. I try setting up a new wifi connection through internet options in the advanced network settings and my laptop says I have no network hardware. What the actual heck happened? I kind of actually need this to work since I only have my work and school emails on this laptop, since I can't log in on my phone, and this has never happened. I can't go download the driver because I can't connect to wifi or a hotspot to get the internet to work. I haven't dropped it or spilled anything on it. My Bluetooth also keeps freaking out; my wireless mouse keeps working for maybe 5 minutes then stops working even with full charge and the computer and mouse software saying it's connected with no issues. HELP.

@serif24, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing a frustrating issue with your laptop's Wi-Fi connectivity, especially with work and school depending on it. Let's go through some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem, even without internet access.

💥 What Probably Happened

Your laptop may have:

  • Lost its Wi-Fi adapter driver due to a bad Windows update, power glitch, or random corruption.
  • Had the network adapter disabled in BIOS or Device Manager.
  • Experienced hardware failure (less likely but possible).

Let's Try These Fixes in Order

🔌 1. Shut Down Fully (Not Just Restart)

  • Hold SHIFT and click Shutdown from the Start menu.
  • Wait 10 seconds, then power back on.
  • This performs a full shutdown and resets certain low-level components like network drivers.

🧰 2. Check Device Manager for Network Adapter

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand "Network adapters". Look for entries like:
    • Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC
    • Realtek RTL8822CE
    • MediaTek Wi-Fi
    • Anything with “Wireless” or “Wi-Fi”?

👉 If it's missing entirely, it likely means:

  • The driver is corrupt/missing, or
  • The adapter is disabled or undetected at the hardware level.

🧪 3. Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager

  • In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
  • Check the Network Adapters section again.
  • If you see anything grayed out, right-click it and select Uninstall, then restart the laptop.

🔄 4. Run Network Reset

If you can access it:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network Reset (at the bottom of the page).
  • This will remove all network adapters and reinstall them after reboot.

⚠️ It takes about 5 minutes and may require admin rights.

🔧 5. Check BIOS to Ensure Wireless is Enabled

  1. Restart your laptop and tap Esc, F10, or Del (depends on your model) to enter BIOS.
  2. Look for anything related to Wireless, Wi-Fi, or Network Adapter—make sure it's enabled.
  3. Save and exit.

📦 6. Offline Driver Install via USB (If Still Nothing Works)

If you're still stuck:

  1. On another device (your phone or a friend's PC), go to HP’s website:
    👉 HP Support
  2. Enter your serial number (printed on the bottom of your laptop).
  3. Download the Wi-Fi driver and chipset driver for your model.
  4. Transfer the files via USB stick to your laptop and install them.
  5. Reboot after installation.

If you're unsure of your model:

  • Press Win + R, type msinfo32, and look at System Model.
  • Or check the label on the bottom/back of the laptop.

If Bluetooth is also malfunctioning, this suggests that the entire wireless chipset (which includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) might be failing or that the drivers are corrupted. Reinstalling the chipset drivers from HP should resolve both issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
