There is no UEFI test on a Pavilion dv6 for the Network Card.  Pushing F2 on boot only provides a field for:

1. Information

2. Quick Memory Test or Extended Memory Test

3. Hard Disk Drive Test

4. Exit from the test window back to the boot sequence.

This is why I downloaded the HP Support Assistant...thinking it would look at my hardware and provide a result.  All it did was report back that it can't do/find anything and to call HP for support.  I don't understand why HP doesn't have a quickie program which interrogates/checks/tests the network card irrespective of the Windows environment.

I will check around and see if anyone has a wireless dongle I can borrow.  It doesn't make sense to purchase one, because I'm working under the assumption my internal network card is still good.  I base this thought on the fact the Device Manager reports the device as working normally, the Network Connection Failure occurred just after a software update, and the fact that Windows Firewall cannot be enabled.  NOTHING I've tried or been instructed to do will enable the Windows Firewall--it CANNOT be enabled.

I now tend to believe the Windows operating system has been corrupted/attacked.

Before undertaking the lengthy prospect of backing up files and data, restoring the Operating System, and reinstalling all my programs and data, I have turned to my antivirus company.  They sent me a program to run which will interrogate my system to see if there is something amiss in the software.  The data has been sent to them for examination; I'm still waiting to hear back from them.

Hi @HVE,

Thank you for the update. Please let me know what your antivirus support reports back.

I didn't wait for antivirus company support since this problem has carried over a week. I reloaded the Windows 7 operating system and my network connectivity was restored along with Internet! You may consider this resolved and close the case, thanks!

Hi @HVE,

Thank you for the update and I am glad you have the wireless working again. As you did a recovery back to Windows 7 and I did suggest that in one of my posts, would you consider marking that post as "Accepted Solution" to assist other members and visitors alike to what worked for you and what may help them. I will close the case as resolved as you suggested.

Thanks again for becoming a forum member and hope you found it informative and worthwhile.
