Your laptop should only come with Realtek as an option.  Intel comes with kernel level support, but unfortunately Realtek does not.  Please check the following article for troubleshooting tips which are specific to Mint and Realtek.  It also has some very specific HP solutions.  Remove the (dot)s and replace them with a "."   Good luck!

open Start menu in Linux mint, type: "driver" If linux is suport your wlan, you found a propriertary driver in Driver Manager app. (Need a Wired network connection for installation)
