Hello,
Recently i updated my laptop to windows 10, and after that my WiFi signal dropped significantly. I have to have my router no longer than 3 metres away, or else it wont catch signal 😕
I dont know what to do, since i have tried updating drivers, search for drivers, restart the laptop serveral times, update windows using other routers (even my Iphones own network sharing). But nothing works..
A Co-worker of mine, said that it is most likely an error, that happend when i updated to Windows10.
I hope you guys can help me out since i really dont want to be buying a new laptop..
My WiFi router is: Atheros AR9485 802.11 b/g/n
Best regards Blue

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.
I understand that you have an HP 15-G series laptop. I read that after updating the laptop to Win10, the wifi signal is weak. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
The evidence points towards the drivers. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Please open the device manager.
- Expand "Network adapters".
- Right click on the wifi network drivers and select uninstall.
You may download and install the drivers from this link: www.hp.com/drivers
If the issue persists, please perform the steps from "Step 3: Use automatic troubleshooting" from this HP article.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. All the best! 🙂

Hello,
Thanks for your help.
My exact product name is "HP 15-g082no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)". With HP 15-g082no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)).
You told me to uninstall my network driver which is "Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11b|g|n WiFi Adatper".
I have located my wifi adapter and the drivers for my PC. But when i click the network drivers section for this laptop, i get 9 options to choose from.
Do i need to first uninstall my WiFi driver then install all 9 drivers from the "Driver-network" section and lastly restart the laptop, or what is the procedure and which driver should i install?
Thanks for your time.
Kind regards
Blue

It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm at your service.
I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:
Install the driver first and then proceed with the steps advised by my colleague,
Also, if the issues with low signal persists, here's a few other things you can do, once your internet is set up:
- Please ensure that there is no interference from air conditioners, microwaves and other equipment that could cause the wireless signal to drop. If there is no such equipment, then, please perform these steps:
- Please check the router broadcasting to channel 11 and check if the connectivity improves.
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand Network adapters>then select the wireless Network drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
- Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and wifi drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2syreDe please select the country and follow the on-screen instructions. Please make sure to use an Ethernet cable and then update it.
- If it still does not work, then the wireless card may be faulty. Please run a wireless module test on it. from this link: http://hp.care/2tlKjct and follow the options under component tests.
- Also please perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2sUotwi for resolving Wi-Fi issues.
- If the issue persists please follow the wireless guided troubleshooter from this link: http://hp.care/2he6M7f and check if the issue gets corrected.
- If it still does not work, then the wireless module may be faulty and a workaround here would be to order a wireless USB dongle and plug it to one of the USB ports of the computer and then connect it to the router to connect to the internet. It is very cost effective and economical and also corrects the situation. You could order one locally by contacting Best Buy or Staples or on Amazon or eBay.
Please reply back with the details of what you have done so far and depending on that I should be able to provide a suitable solution as I wouldn't want to repeat the steps you've already done.
I hope you understand.

I appreciate that you take your time to help me!
I am just a bit confused..
Do you want me to remove my "Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11b|g|n WiFi Adapter", restart my laptop and then install the drivers and BIOS from the website you listed?
If so, on the website there is 9 drivers under the "network driver section". How many do
You want me to install?? Should I just download and run ALL 9??
I don't dare doing anything before I know that..
