I bought a laptop last Saturday (30-8-16). I study in a university where you have to give your laptop's MAC address/Physical address to access the university WI-Fi. So i took my laptop to the wi-fi configuration department, they registered my MAC address and sent me back. But the wi-fi did'nt work, so i went back and he tried checking my MAC address and the MAC address had changed. So, he asked me to restart my laptop and when i did, i got a new MAC address again (third one). He said MAC address is supposed to be unique, please go get it checked. So basically each time i shut it down and start or restart my laptop, i get a new MAC address. I called the customer care on Tuesday and your executive couldn't understand the problem and he just disconnected the call. I had to call again and wait for so long, even this guy didn't know the solution to this. He said he'll ask his senior officials and get back to me the next day but i've not got a single call till now. I called again and asked another guy, he asked me to open command prompt and type "getmac" and my laptop displayed 3 MAC addresses that time whereas a laptop should have only 2! I have received a damaged product probably and i'm not getting proper service due to which i had to post here. It's been 4 days and not a single solution. Please solve ASAP.

You would have 3 physical addresses (MACs) because you have 3 communications devices:  LAN, WLAN, and BlueTooth.  The MAC address cannot change by itself and I have never heard of that happening in my realm of support.  The only way it would change is if you have a MAC address spoofer or some type of malware infection causing issues with your computer.  This could also be a case of bad technical support from the university department if they're not looking at the correct fields or are missing something.

This is what every executive says "I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE", well now you have, so come up with a solution! And my university has 16000+ students and they've registered atleast 10000+ devices and they do know how to check a MAC address. Why would i use a spoofer? So that i don't get to access my university Wi-Fi? If you don't believe me, you can send your executives to my place and they can check it on their own. I bought it at a Reliance Digital outlet and i showed it to them and their technician was surprised to see the MAC address changing. And the display starts flashing after using it for 30 minutes or an hour. It's a defective piece. I asked Reliance Digital to exchange it and they said we need to get something from HP company in order to exchange. And when i call the HP customer support it takes around 30 minutes to get connected and when it does, they listen to my problem and disconnect the call or say i'll get back which they never will and i'll be left with no patience to wait for another 30 minutes to talk to another executive who'll probably disconnect my call too. So, please resolve my problem here ASAP.

PS. Check for the pictures attached. Each picture was taken after a restart. All 3 physical addresses are different.undefinedundefinedundefined

Thanks for uploading those pictures.  It still appears that you most likely have software installed that is causing this problem, be it uTorrent, Connectify, or something else.  If you are running Connectify software, I would recommend contacting their support group.

The only other recommendation I have is for you to perform the HP factory recovery to remove any software/configurations that you have added...then you can test the machine without adding any additional software to see if the issue persists.

Go to settings - network & Internet - select WiFi on left side - turn off the "Use random hardware addresses" option.

That's it
