Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb1000 (7Y8M8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have AT&T internet and in the beginning my laptop would connect all the time and it ran smoothly when gaming, when using the EA app and when I was using Steam. In the last couple momths I have noticed that it would take forever for my computer to decide to connect to my wifi (every other device does it with no problem) and It even struggled to connect even in the same room as the router. It would do it eventually but I would have to keep hitting connect, refreshing and everything. I made sure that my router was reset, AT&T even gave me a new updated wireless wifi router that I needed and my laptop is still the only one struggling. I have made sure that my drivers were updated but it still takes a long time. The EA gaming app and Steam app has to be reset multiple times as well to register that my computer is connected to the wifi so I can game online. It will work for awhile and then my wifi will just drop out of nowhere. I am unsure what to do now. This computer is fairly new. I have only had it for 2 years after purchase and it still runs quickly through the applications ( especially when it is connected to wifi)

Hi @lateshapowell4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Victus 15-fb1000 is having intermittent Wi-Fi issues, it struggles to connect to your AT&T router, drops connection unexpectedly, and affects online apps like EA and Steam, while other devices on the same network work fine. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this.

Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi

Click the Wi-Fi icon on your taskbar and select Network & Internet settings.

Go to Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, select your AT&T network, and choose Forget.

Reconnect by entering your Wi-Fi password again.

Run the Windows Network Troubleshooter

Press Windows + S and search for Troubleshoot settings.

Select Other troubleshooters > Internet Connections > Run.

Follow the prompts to let Windows detect and fix common network issues.

Update Wi-Fi Drivers

Press Windows + X > Device Manager > expand Network adapters.

Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter (likely Intel Wi-Fi or Killer Wi-Fi) > Update driver > Search automatically.

If Windows doesn’t find a newer version, check HP Customer Support for the latest driver for your laptop model.

Reset Network Settings

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset.

Click Reset now. This will reinstall network adapters and reset network configurations.

Reboot your laptop after the reset.

Disable Power Saving on Wi-Fi Adapter

In Device Manager, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter > Properties > Power Management.

Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

Check for Interference or Router Settings

Make sure your laptop is connecting to the correct band (5 GHz is preferred for gaming).

Ensure the router firmware is up to date (AT&T routers usually auto-update, but check).

Avoid other devices or electronics causing interference near the laptop.

Reset EA and Steam Apps

Completely close the apps.

Clear cache or log out and log back in.

Restart the apps after Wi-Fi connection is stable.

Test with Another Network

Temporarily connect your laptop to a mobile hotspot or another Wi-Fi network.

If the laptop connects reliably elsewhere, it may indicate a compatibility issue with your router.

I hope this helps.
