Hello, for the past two days, suddenly my internet has started to fail on my laptop. I've tried using different Wi-Fi networks and various browsers, and I keep getting the same error. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it keeps disconnecting, which is very annoying, and the connection has become very slow. The error I see is as follows:

"Your internet access has been blocked. It’s possible that antivirus software or a firewall has blocked the connection. Try:

- Checking the connection.

- Checking the firewall and antivirus settings.

- Running the Windows Network Diagnostics.

ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED"

(I had to translate from spanish)

I’ve checked the antivirus and firewall, tried browsing with both disabled, and nothing works; the error persists. I’ve updated drivers, restarted the network connection, and scanned for malware... I don’t know what it could be.

The only thing I can think of is that it might be related to the PCI? In Device Manager, it shows that the PCI device driver is missing, and I can’t find a way to install it manually. On other sites, when I try, it says there’s an error with the OS.

Hi @Albbba,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP laptop's internet issue could be caused by a missing or outdated driver related to the network adapter, particularly the PCI device that might be linked to the wireless adapter. Here's a structured approach to resolving this issue.

Update Network and PCI Drivers:

Manually update PCI device driver:

  • In Device Manager, right-click the PCI device (the one showing the issue) and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  • If it doesn’t find any updates, go to HP’s support website for your specific laptop model and manually download and install the chipset and network drivers.

Using Windows Update:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click Check for updates and install any updates available, particularly those related to drivers.

Use HP Support Assistant:

  • If you haven't already, download and install the HP Support Assistant tool from HP’s website. It can scan your system for any missing or outdated drivers, including PCI-related drivers.

Reinstall Network Adapter:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter, and choose Uninstall device. Check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device.
  • Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the network adapter driver.

Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings Again:

  • Even though you've already tried disabling the antivirus and firewall, consider completely uninstalling the antivirus temporarily and seeing if the issue persists.
  • Ensure that Windows Defender or any third-party firewall is not blocking your network connections.

Reset Network Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
  • Scroll down and click Network reset. This will remove and reinstall all your network adapters, setting them to their default settings.
  • Restart your laptop after the reset is complete.

Check Browser Proxy Settings:

  • Sometimes, incorrect proxy settings can lead to ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED.
  • In Chrome, go to Settings > Advanced > System > Open proxy settings.
  • Under the Connections tab, click LAN settings and make sure Automatically detect settings is checked. Uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN if it’s selected.

Use Command Prompt for Network Troubleshooting:

Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following commands one by one:

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

After running these, restart your laptop and check the connection.

Check PCI Device Missing Driver Issue:

If you're unable to install the PCI device driver manually, it could be a chipset driver issue. Go to the HP Support Website, search for your exact laptop model, and download the latest chipset drivers and Intel Management Engine Interface (IMEI) drivers.

Use Safe Mode with Networking:

Try running your laptop in Safe Mode with Networking to see if the problem persists. This helps determine if any background services are causing the issue.

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and go to the Boot tab.
  • Check Safe boot and select Network. Click Apply, and restart your laptop.

If the issue still persists after trying these steps, the PCI device error and network issues might be connected to a deeper system problem, potentially requiring a system repair or reinstall of Windows.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
