Dear Support Forum Community,
I see a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on WAN Miniport (IP) icon in my Windows 10 Envy Laptop. Under Device Manager, In the General tab in properties the "Device status" message is - "Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device." (Code 56) How can I update the driver. I wonder whether this is the cause that Windows File Explorer is slow to respond. Thank you, in advance.
Thank you,
Juan

Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I would like to inform you that the WAN Miniport (PPTP) adapter (driver) is used when making a VPN connection to a PPTP VPN server. The WAN Miniport (PPOE) adapter (driver) would be used when your computer is connected directly to a PPOE broadband modem and it has nothing to do with the file explorer.
I recommend you follow the below steps to update the driver and check whether the issue is resolved.
- Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
- Expand a category (like Monitors or Network Adapters) to find the name of your device, then right-click (or tap and hold) it, and select Update Driver. ...
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
If the issue persists, I recommend you install HP support assistant from the below link and install all the update and check.
Here is how it is done.
-
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
-
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
-
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
-
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
-
Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
-
Perform any other update management actions as needed.
-
Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.
-
Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon
to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.
-
Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.
-
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hello,
Thank you for the prompt and courteous reply. Although, I went through the guided steps, I did not have any luck updating the network adapter. I did some research online and found a solution. It seems that my VPN client had something to do with the issue. I unistalled the VPN client and unistalled the network adapter and restarted my laptop. I then checked for the network adapter under Device Manager and the issue has been resolved. I will now reinstall my VPN client and hope that the issue will not resurface. Thank you for your support!
