I Just acquired a new HP 14-FQ0XX laptop to do online support work but only realize at the last minute that it does not have an ethernet port to connect a cable to. Would a USB to Ethernet Adapter work on the Model to provide the Fast Ethernet connection i need? or do I have to get a different Laptop?

That's right, it does not have RJ-45 port for Ethernet / LAN cable. I'm using the following adapter for my machine
https://www.amazon.com.au/Anker-Aluminum-Portable-Gigabit-Ethernet/dp/B00PC07T02
And I've got 2 more USB 3.0 ports. There are many similar around, you can get 4 or 7 ports adapter and much cheaper too. I bought the same Anker adapter from Amazon before, for under $50.
Regards.
