Hi @7728,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop shows Wi-Fi as "On" but you can’t connect to the internet, here are the steps to try and fix the issue.

1. Restart Your Laptop and Router

  • Power off your laptop.
  • Unplug your router/modem for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Turn your laptop back on and try reconnecting.

2. Forget and Reconnect to the Network

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
  • Select your Wi-Fi network and click Forget.
  • Reconnect by entering the password again.

3. Run HP Network Diagnostics

  • Search for HP Support Assistant in the Start menu.
  • Open it and go to Troubleshooting and Fixes > Internet and Security > HP Network Check.
  • Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix issues.

4. Check IP Configuration

  • Open Command Prompt and type:
  • ipconfig /all
    • If your IP address starts with 169.254, it means your laptop isn’t getting a valid IP from the router.

         Try:

  • ipconfig /release
  • ipconfig /renew

5. Update Network Drivers

  • Go to Device Manager > Network adapters.
  • Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter (e.g., Realtek, Intel) > Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for drivers.

6. Reset Network Settings

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
  • Scroll down and click Network reset.
  • Restart your laptop after the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
