I unboxed my HP Stream yesterday and connecting to the internet is extremely slow. i checked my internet and also used my old chromebook to make sure i wasn't having connection problems. My chromebook connected instantly...within 2 seconds.
I noticed that there are a lot of random apps and programs installed on this computer that I'm trying to remove to so the computer will be quicker...but i'm not sure if it will make a difference. I'm going to play around with it for a few more days, but if it does not improve, i'm returning it to the store.
I'd appreciate any advice as to what i can do to make my computer faster.
i look forward to reading your responses 🙂

The first time that Windows 10 can connect to the Internet causes it to launch Windows Update, to download all the latest security-fixes between the date that Windows was factory-installed on the computer and today's date.
This update consumes significant resources, including CPU, disk-drive, RAM, and network bandwidth, leaving less resources for you to use.

Open the Windows Task Manager, and switch to the "Performance" tab, to see which resources are being consumed by Windows Update.
Just leave the computer alone, until Windows Update has completed, and you get a message to "reboot now to finish the installation". Reboot, and your updated computer should perform at its best.
Note that some applications will not open, while Windows Update is running.
It's very difficult to change an automobile tire while the automobile is moving!
(I have seen it done -- by a specially-equipped vehicle, in the 1960s, as two young men tried to drive non-stop across the USA.)

It will not make a difference. It's not like packing "everything" into your suitcase, and then travelling on vacation.
Your suitcase will be unnecessarily heavy, and you'll feel its "extra" weight.
Instead, most of those programs are just "packed" onto your disk-drive, but are not running, most of the time.
For example, the Windows "Paint" program exists, but consumes NO resources (except for some bytes on your disk-drive) until you choose to run it.

Intel® Celeron® N3060 (1.6 GHz, up to 2.48 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 2 MB cache, 2 cores)
Processor technology Intel Turbo Boost Technology
Memory - 4 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB)
That's not the fastest processor.
US price is $349.99 -- far less than some "gaming" laptop which can cost more than 6 times as much.
As they say in drag-racing: speed costs money -- how fast do you want to go?

I bought an HP Stream for my daughter as a school PC a year ago; the worst PC I have ever used and I'm a very technically proficient PC person. I'd read positive reviews and the price was great; I've also never had anything but positive experiences with other HP equipment.
It's so slow, so bad, that she will not use it; dead slow at start-up , overwhelmed by whatever functions it is perfortming. It seems to take about 20 minutes to finish whatever it's doing then eventually the mouse stopps skipping and windows start appearing minutes after their request clicks.
Only 7.4GB of usable memory after all the preloaded software and MS Office is installed. The thing really is useless but I found out too late that she had not been using it; she didn't want to make a fuss. Now it's too late to do anything about it. A complete waste of money.
I'm beyond dissapointed with this awful product.

There is an incompatibility on HP computers with a Windows Update released on September 12, 2017, causing a "black screen" (find many threads on this forum by searching on those two words) for 10 to 20 minutes after entering the Windows login password. Run Windows Update, and HP Support Assistant, to get "remedial" updates for this problem.
> Only 7.4GB of usable storage, after all the preloaded software and MS Office is installed.
Yes. Start with 32 GB of SSD, and subtract HP Diagnostic Partition, and Windows Recovery Partition, and add Windows Updates, and not much is left. Run "Disk Cleanup", and choose "cleanup system files" to remove files that have been superceded by newer versions installed by Windows Update -- browse to 'C:\Windows\Installer' to see lots of space-gobbling '.msi' files.
Uninstall any resource-hungry anti-virus programs, and use the built-in Windows Defender as the anti-virus software.
P.S. if you "disable" the wireless adapter, and disconnect the Ethernet cable, and then restart, does it still take many minutes for it to be "ready-to-go" ? Since some programs can no longer "call-home" to ask for updates, it should start more quickly.
