Hi @ripleyfin,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating battery issue. Here are a few steps to help diagnose and hopefully resolve the problem.

Check Battery Connection: Make sure the new battery is properly seated and connected. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause detection issues.

Inspect the Battery and AC Adapter: Ensure that the battery and AC adapter are both genuine HP parts and compatible with your laptop model.

Update BIOS and Drivers: Check for any BIOS updates or battery-related drivers on the HP website. Sometimes, updating these can resolve detection issues.

Power Reset: Perform a power reset by:

  • Shutting down the laptop.
  • Disconnecting the AC adapter.
  • Removing the battery.
  • Pressing and holding the power button for 15-30 seconds.
  • Reconnecting the battery and AC adapter, then powering on the laptop.

Check Battery Health: Use HP Support Assistant or another battery health diagnostic tool to check the status of the new battery. If the tool indicates a problem, the battery might be defective.

Test with a Different Battery: If possible, try testing with another battery that is known to be working to determine if the issue is with the battery or the laptop itself.

Check Windows Power Settings: Sometimes, incorrect power settings can cause battery detection issues. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and check your settings.

Inspect Battery Contacts: Look inside the battery compartment for any debris or damage that might be interfering with the connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
