HP 2000-200 Notebook PC series
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

No Network drivers were installed afterdoing a fresh windows install. As in the photo windows can't find the proper drivers. I've tried downloading and installing drivers from the hp site, but nothing works. OTOH, I've booted a disk version of Linux Mint and connected to the internet with no problem.drivers.JPG

Hi:

Please post the exact model number or product number of your notebook.

The product number can normally be found on the same label as the serial number.  Do not post the serial number.

Or use this guide to find the necessary info...

Model# 2000-2a53c. When I go to the hp downloads page and select this model with the 64 bit operating system, it announces there's no drivers for it. And yet, the re-install was for the exact same o/s and is a properly activated install.

Hi:

Here are the direct links to the drivers you need, except for the wireless (Network Controller).  I will need more info on that...more on that below the drivers I posted...

Ethernet:

This package provides the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver that enables the Realtek Network Interface Card (NIC) Chip in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56680.exe

PCI Device:

This package contains the driver that enables the Realtek Card Reader in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The card reader enables users to read from or write to supported removable storage cards, which are typically used in digital cameras, digital music players, and cellular phones.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp64501-65000/sp64801.exe

PCI Simple Comms Controller:

This package provides the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Intel Management Engine Interface enables communication between the host operating system and the Intel Management Engine firmware.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56675.exe

SMBus Controller:  NOTE:  install this driver first and restart the PC.

This package contains the Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver for supported notebook models and operating systems. This utility enables the operating system to show the correct name for the installed Intel hardware in the Microsoft Windows Device Manager.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56670.exe

OK...for the Network Controller device, please post the hardware ID for it, so I can figure out what driver it needs.

There can be one of several different model wifi adapters HP could have installed in there.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device...

PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8136&CC_0200

Get the above for my Network Adapter entry in DEvice manager. Noy sure if I previously installed this and it didn't work, but the remaining problem entry is for "Network Controller" which returns a simple code 28 with no way to view hardware id.

Hi:

You posted the hardware ID for the wired (ethernet) controller.

I need the hardware ID from the wireless adapter (Network Controller).

You would find it the same way you found the one for the Realtek ethernet adapter.

Either that, or flip the notebook over and post the FCC ID for the wireless device.

It should be on a sticker someplace.
