Pavillion g6 - 2249wm
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have read many of the posts and responses but am not seeing an answer that fits me.

My laptop came with Windows 8 which I detest. I bought windows 7 and eagerly rebooted my hard drive. But now I cannot get any internet access and I tried going to the HP drivers page for my model - but due to an oversight on HPs behalf there are no drivers for Windows 7 - only nasty windows 8 and above!!!

I have tried going to other sites but I need the full set of HP downloads to set everything up properly.

Please help - I love my laptop and I want Windows 7.

Yep.

That was the problem.

The ID you posted means your notebook has a Ralink wireless card, not an atheros one like the parts list stated.

These are the wireless and bluetooth drivers you need for that model card...

This package contains the driver installation package for the Ralink Wireless LAN Controllers in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

File name: sp61776.exe

Hi:

Below are the links to the W7 wireless and bluetooth drivers you need...

This package provides the driver to support the Atheros Wireless LAN adapter in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

File name: sp57138.exe

This package contains the driver installation package for the Atheros Bluetooth 4.0 + HS in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56573.exe

For the smbus and usb3 controllers, download and install the 1st driver on the list from the link below. Then restart the PC.

For the rest of the drivers...(audio, graphics, Realtek LAN (ethernet), card reader, etc), you can use the W7 drivers and software from the g7z-2100 except the BIOS and firmware files.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I did exactly as you told me but still nothing. It says that windows could not detect a properly installed network adapter and that it might need to be re-installed.

I have an ethernet cable plugged into the laptop - but it cannot even see it.  It is so weird, it's like the windows 7 install is just a pretty picture on the front, but the laptop is now an empty shell.

The internet was working fine before the install.

Sorry - just to clarify - it says that the network adapter "driver" needs to be re-installed. But that is the part I don't have

Is it possible to hook up my dead laptop to a working laptop in order to access the internet? Surely it would be a lot simpler to find and download all the necessary drivers if I had access to the internet?

I could use one of those annoying driver finder programs - right?

You're very welcome.

The parts list for your notebook indicated that it comes with an Atheros wireless card.

It may have a different model.

Please post the hardware ID for the device you see in the device manager labeled as a Network Controller.

To find the hardware ID, click on the network controller.

Then click on the Details tab at the top of the network controller window.

Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description.

Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's).

Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.
