HP Chromebook x360 14a-ca1000 (6E3P6AV)
Chrome OS

HP Chromebook requires restart after waking from sleep to connect to internet. It appears to be connected to wifi, but running diagnosis says

"Diagnostics
Connectivity
Wi-Fi
WARNING Local Network Can't contact gateway
FAILED Name Resolution Can't resolve DNS
SKIPPED Wi-Fi
SKIPPED Internet Connectivity"

All other devices continue connectivity to network and internet. I am switching power settings, now, to prevent going to sleep, but this is very unsatisfactory way to deal with this long-standing problem.

Hi @verlyn,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Chromebook is experiencing issues reconnecting to the network after waking from sleep mode. This can be a common issue with Chromebooks and other devices, and it might be resolved with a few troubleshooting steps. Here are some suggestions to try:

1. Update Chrome OS

Make sure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS, as updates often include fixes for connectivity issues.

  1. Click on the clock in the bottom right corner.Click the gear icon to open Settings.
  2. Scroll down and click "About Chrome OS."Click "Check for updates."

2. Restart Network Devices

Sometimes the issue can be with the router or modem. Restart your router and modem to see if it resolves the problem.

  1. Unplug the power from your router and modem.Wait about 30 seconds.
  2. Plug the modem back in and wait for it to fully start up.Plug the router back in and wait for it to fully start up.

3. Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi Network

Forgetting the network and reconnecting can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

  1. Click on the clock in the bottom right corner.Click on the Wi-Fi icon.
  2. Click the gear icon next to your Wi-Fi network.Click "Forget."
  3. Reconnect to your Wi-Fi network by selecting it from the list and entering your password.

4. Powerwash (Factory Reset)

If the problem persists, performing a Powerwash (factory reset) can help. Be sure to back up any important data before doing this, as it will erase all local data on your Chromebook.

  1. Click on the clock in the bottom right corner.Click the gear icon to open Settings.Scroll down and click "Advanced."
  2. Under the "Reset settings" section, click "Powerwash" and then "Restart."Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
