Microsoft Windows 11

Just got a new custom Spectre that I ordered online through HP. The Wi-Fi has been painfully slow since I started it up. Can barely even load a web page. I tried absolutely everything to resolve the issue to no avail. However, I noticed when I logged into Facebook that it said a new device had logged in from Virginia (I'm in California). So I went to a 'what is my ip' website, and it confirmed that my IP is showing up way over there. I checked for any proxy server or vpn, but can't find anything that would be routing me through there.

I connected with HP support and had a tech take control of my computer. He first took a couple hours to do everything I'd done originally (updates, driver re-installs, bios updates, etc) to alleviate the issue. I brought up the IP issue multiple times, but he didn't seem to understand. Currently HP is mailing me a system recovery kit to do a fresh install of Windows.

I feel certain that the slow wi-fi is because my connection is related to that weird IP address.

Anyone experience something similar? Could it just be a card issue that's creating a false ip?

I decided to Google my IP address, and it is one that has been reported as spam that belongs to some attorneys. Still very puzzled.

Just connected to a new network at another house. Still showing my IP as the same. Hmm.

Hi@POTA1968,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing Wi-Fi issues with the HP Spectre Laptop PC IP Address shows location in another state. It is not an issue with the Wi-Fi card on the PC.

I have a few recommendations

  • Try doing a Reset on the PC Keep my files from windows and check if it works.
  • You can do a complete reinstallation of windows from HP shipped USB Recovery kit.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
