I just bought this laptop yesterday and can't seem to detect 5Ghz network on my laptop.

I've already messed around with Device Manager, reinstalling the drivers, try using bootable Ubuntu stick but nothing seem to work.

Can someone please help?

Here are some information that might be useful

@Luxic Well, the wireless card in your device supports both 2.4 and 5 ghz channel as per this link here, so, ideally it should work fine, if it isn't and you've already reinstalled the drivers, we may need to check if the device works on 2.4ghz, is it working? If it is, create a new user account and check if it works.

If that doesn't help and/or the 2.4ghz doesn't connect either,

let's perform an extensive hardware test to identify the issue:

Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

P.S: Welcome to HP Community 😉

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

I've done the tests, the components did not fail.

I can still use the 2.4GHz wifi and can create a 5GHz hotspot, I just can't detect any 5GHz network.

I've also created a new user and tried it on there, same thing happens.

I think it might've been a problems with Windows but I've tried using Ubuntu and it still didn't show up.

@Luxic If it's not detecting the 5ghz, perhaps, you should check with the ISP and change your router settings,

Let me know how that goes.
