I have a Pavilion g4-1318dx with a RALINK RT5390 mini PCI WiFi adapter. I would like to upgrade to a better adapter. Preferably one that can connect to 5GHz WiFi which I understand is a longshot considering the age of this device. I attempted to use an Intel 7260HMW; however, as soon as the laptop booted, it complained about an incompatible WiFi adapter and insisted that I remove it.
Is there a list of compatible WiFi adapters (Outside of the Maintenance and Service Guide) or a recommendation of the best one to purchase?
Thank you in advance to whoever has any information on this.

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/sg-en/document/c03262013
It is a 11 years old machine. Due to the whitelist in BIOS, the chance to upgrade wifi adapter is none. I bought the following adapter to test
https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Networking/Adapters/67965-USB-AC53-NANO
It works perfectly on my 11 years old and my 9 years old machines. There are many around and cheaper too.
Regards.
