HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15-ee0503na

I'm having trouble with my Wacom Bamboo pen on my HP ENVY x360 laptop. It connects, and the buttons work (I can launch apps like OneNote), but when I try to write with it, nothing happens, and it often shows as disconnected. I previously bought an MPP 2.0 tilt stylus, which also had issues with the pen not connecting at all, so I got the Wacom pen to try instead. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I just tried this in school with my friends computer with the a hp elitebook x360 and it worked well on his without even connecting via blue tooth , so its a system issue but i have no idea what is up with the PC, went to device manager and everything is alright, the pen worked for 5 seconds and just stopped right after unboxing.

Hi @IzzyBe_e ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with pen compatibility and connectivity on your HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15-ee0503na. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem with your Wacom Bamboo pen:

1. Verify Pen Compatibility

  • The HP ENVY x360 - 15-ee0503na supports Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP). Some Wacom pens use a different protocol (such as Wacom AES), which may lead to inconsistent behavior. Ensure your Wacom Bamboo pen is MPP-compatible. If it isn't, it might explain the intermittent connectivity.
  • The MPP 2.0 tilt stylus you mentioned not connecting could also be due to a protocol mismatch or driver issues.

2. Update Drivers

  • Step 1: Go to Device Manager (press Windows + X and select Device Manager).
  • Step 2: Expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Step 3: Right-click on the HID-compliant touch screen and select Update driver.
  • Step 4: Repeat for any pen input devices listed (such as Wacom Pen or Surface Pen if they appear).
  • Step 5: If the drivers are up-to-date but the issue persists, try reinstalling the drivers:
    • Right-click the pen device and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your laptop, and the drivers should reinstall automatically.

3. Check Bluetooth and Connection Stability

  • Bluetooth Signal Issues: Since the pen often shows as disconnected, there may be Bluetooth connectivity problems.
    • Make sure your Bluetooth drivers are up to date:
      1. Go to Device Manager > Bluetooth.
      2. Right-click the Bluetooth adapter and select Update driver.
    • Check for Bluetooth interference (e.g., nearby devices, Wi-Fi, or other Bluetooth peripherals) and move the laptop or pen to reduce interference.

4. Pen Calibration and Settings

  • Step 1: Open Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
  • Step 2: Ensure that pen features are properly configured (check if the pen is recognized and settings like handwriting input and pen pressure are enabled).
  • Step 3: If the Wacom Bamboo pen has its own software (Wacom drivers or apps), open the app and recalibrate the pen for your screen.
  • Step 4: Try disabling palm rejection temporarily to check if the pen responsiveness improves.

5. Windows Ink Settings

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink and:
    • Ensure that Let me use my pen as a mouse is checked.
    • Check Ignore touch input when I’m using my pen to ensure there’s no interference from the touch screen.

Hi @IzzyBe_e ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

6. Update Firmware and BIOS

  • Sometimes pen issues are due to outdated firmware or BIOS versions.
    • Visit HP’s support page for your laptop model and download any available BIOS and firmware updates.

7. Test with Another Application

  • Try using the pen in different applications such as Microsoft Whiteboard or Paint to check if it works consistently across other apps.
  • If the issue is app-specific, try reinstalling the app (such as OneNote).

8. Reset/Reinstall Pen Software

  • If your Wacom Bamboo pen uses its own software or drivers, try:
    • Uninstalling the Wacom software or driver.
    • Rebooting the laptop.
    • Reinstalling the software and checking if the pen works.

9. Try an HP-Compatible Pen

  • Since the MPP 2.0 tilt stylus had connection issues, it’s possible that the pen or Bluetooth module might not be functioning correctly. Consider trying an HP-compatible active pen, like the HP Tilt Pen or the HP Active Pen G3, designed to work seamlessly with HP ENVY x360 models.

10. Reset Windows Pen Settings

  • If the problem persists, you can try resetting the Windows Ink Workspace settings:
    • Open Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
    • Scroll down and select Reset Pen Settings if available.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
