You're very welcome.

I didn't even notice that the part numbers are the same.  I must have made a mistake somehow with the part numbers.

The part number for the AX200 no-vPro is L35282-005

Here are eBay.fr listings for the 7265 card...seem pretty reasonable to me...

Hi:

What is the product number of your notebook?

Use this guide to find that information...please do not post the serial number.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108

That model wifi adapter and its cousin the RTL8821CE have had issues since day one.

For now, try the latest drivers from HP if you have not done so already.

Wifi:

2024.0.10.218

BT:

Further info i paid for extended HP support which ran out at the end of August. I have had many very long conversations and software updates which one month used my entire data allowance of 100Gb also it was sent back to HP for repair. The basic problem of dropping out and poor WiFi has not been solved. Please help with possibly an idea of a hardware change i.e. new card??

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06172053

There were only two supported wifi cards for your model, which are listed in chapter 3.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 802.11 AC 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (nonvPro)  901229-855

Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11 AC 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter                                               924813-855

The Intel card would probably be less problematic than the Realtek card.  I have 3 of them in two desktops and a notebook, and they have worked just fine.

However, I have a newer Envy Ryzen notebook than yours (with the Ryzen 4500), and mine has the Intel AX 200 non-vPro card. It also works great.

So, I am wondering if that model card would also work in yours as well.

If you want to give it a try, here is the description and part number from my notebook's service manual.

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro     901229-855

Otherwise get the Intel 7265 AC card.

This is very important...it must be the non-vPro version of the wifi card or it won't work.

vPro is only for Intel platforms that support vPro technology and those are only HP Intel business class PC's, workstations and notebooks.

Hi Paul

Thanks very much for the additional info. One question is the HP part number 901229-855 specific if so i am a ;little confused as you said either: -

(i) Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 802.11 AC 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (nonvPro)  901229-855

or

(ii) Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro 901229-855

Is the second part number correct as they are the same?

I have tried to get the first option but best price so far is about $40 Any suggestions of a supplier interested to post to France at a reasonable rate not as some have said over $75 postage?

If I can get a reasonably priced supplier to provide the parts I will probably buy both to see which is best.

Once again thanks for the help.

Best regards DFJJ

Hi Paul

I have ordered both cards and look forward to trying them.

Once again thanks for the help sad I wasn't told of the shortcoming of the Realtek card when having very protracted calls with the HP helpline.

The best thing for me to do is post the response when I get the new card and then I can say with authority that you have solved the issue.

Best regards DFJJ

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

I have two HP 255 G7 notebooks with the other lousy RTL8821CE card and so far they haven't given me any issues.

Looking forward to reading about the results of your notebook's WIFI card upgrade.

I am assuming you will try the AX card first?

Just be very careful when removing and reattaching the very thin and delicate antenna wires!

While the service manual I posted yesterday has the written procedure to remove and replace the wifi card, here is a video from another HP notebook that gives the general steps.

Your model will have two antenna wires and may not have the plastic cover.

Hi Paul

I had a bit of fun last night undoing Torx T5 screws (why on earth T5 no-one has that driver) without the correct driver and ending up with computer components all over the dining table, with my wife prophesying doom for my laptop.

Anyway I fitted the AX card last night and found out that you do not have to wait 30 seconds to a minute for the Bluetooth to connect or not as it thinks fit. If you just tap disconnect it immediately disconnects and the reverse is also true.

Thanks so much for the advice it would have been great if I was given that 2 years ago when all this started.

I will keep the other card safe just in case of tragic failure of the AX card.

Tell me how I can respond in a way which will help you improve your standing in the support community, you really do know what you are talking about!

Finest regards from a very happy Envy owner DFJJ
