Compaq Presario CQ71
Microsoft Windows Vista
Hi all, recently having problems with network controller, and unable to get wireless connection, Ive been trying to upgrade from windows vista to something newer and I believe I may have picked up a virus in the process. Tried follow the device manager but it has not been able to reinstall. I am only able to connect to the internet via a cable to the router. Any help is much appreciated Thanks Cris

What is something newer? We will need to know the exact model of the laptop and which Windows version you now have in order to help. Must identify the hardware.

Do I need to download a new driver?

Hi, @Crirish :

Unfortunately, there is no W10 driver for the atheros AR5007 wifi card your notebook has.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W7 driver and see if that works.

This package contains the drivers for the supported Atheros Wireless LAN Adapters in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54972.exe

Try manually installing the driver if the auto install method doesn't work.

If that driver doesn't work, you will have to either use an external usb wireless network adapter that works with W10, or revert to a supported operating system (Vista/W7).
