820 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The software list for my 820 G4 notebook shows the following driver:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-elitebook-820-g4-notebook-pc/11122281/...

- What kind of driver is this?

- Why is it labelled for "all docks"?

I have the "2013 Ultra Slim Docking Station" for my 820 G4 and I never had to use any driver for the docking station.

The NIC inside the 820 G4 is a "Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I219-V", the driver above seems to be from Realtek.

Can someone explain?

Driver is very new (April 2021). Do you connect LAN cable to your machine or the dock ? If thru the dock, it is much better to install driver now (You may not have dropping problem, but few people do have).

Which dock ? All docks means all the following docks

Thanks for the PDF, my docking station is described on page 36 and 37.

When the notebook is in the docking station, the LAN cable can ONLY be connected to the docking stations LAN port, because the LAN port of the notebook is hidden then.

I *never* had to use a special (different) driver than the one for the integrated NIC in the notebook. The LAN port of the docking station is just a pass-through in my opinion.

That's why I'm confused now about this driver showing up on the support page, because I think there was no such driver labelled "for all docks" in the last three years (that's the period I'm using this notebook and the docking station).

Is it possible that this driver has some kind of misleading naming especially the "for all docks"?
