Microsoft Windows 10 in S Mode

I got this laptop at Xmas. Every time I switch it on it has disconnected from the network. Trouble shooter throws up same error every time " REALTEK  RTL8821CE HARDWARE /DRIVER ERROR" and I have been unable to fix this. As of now, the only way to get any connection is to restart the pc and hope that works. Does anyone on here know how on earth i sort out this issue please? According to the devices manager  no updates are required for this .

Thanks

Hi:

Since you posted you are running Windows 10 in S mode, you can't run executable driver updates.

So what you can do is to manually install the latest wifi driver for the RTL8821CE wifi adapter as follows...

This is the latest driver.  Compare it with the one showing up for the wifi adapter in the device manager.

2024.0.10.224,  08/12/2021

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp136001-136500/sp136022.exe

You are going to have to do a couple of things using another Windows PC.

Download and save the above driver.

Download and install this free file utility.

The 1st file listed is for 64 bit.

7-Zip

After you install 7-zip, right click on the driver file you downloaded.

Select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.

Have 7-zip Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp136022).

After that folder has been created, copy it to a USB flash drive, plug the flash drive into your 14-D2000 notebook and copy the folder to your Windows desktop or the documents or downloads folder under your user profile.

Then to update the wifi driver, go to the device manager.

Click on the Realtek wifi adapter.

Click on the driver tab.

Click on Update driver.

Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option and browse to the sp136022 driver folder you copied to your PC.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC and see if the updated driver resolves the problem for you.
