Hi @mooner3

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying out the details—when your HP ENVY Desktop with the RTL8723BE adapter keeps dropping Wi-Fi despite a strong T-Mobile 5G signal, it’s understandably disruptive. This adapter is known to be sensitive to power-saving settings and roaming behavior, especially on newer gateways.

Let’s walk through a full fix to stabilize your connection.

Step-by-step fix for RTL8723BE Wi-Fi drops

Disable power-saving for the adapter

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters, right-click Realtek RTL8723BE, and select Properties.
  • Go to the Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
  • Click OK.

Adjust roaming sensitivity

  • In Device Manager, under RTL8723BE Properties > Advanced tab, locate Roaming Sensitivity Level.
  • Set it to Medium or Lowest to reduce aggressive switching between access points.

Force 2.4 GHz band (if needed)

  • The RTL8723BE is a 2.4 GHz-only adapter.
  • On your T-Mobile 5G gateway, log into the admin panel and disable band steering or create a separate 2.4 GHz SSID.
  • Connect your desktop only to that SSID to avoid compatibility issues.

Update the Wi-Fi driver

  • Visit HP’s official driver page for your desktop:
HP ENVY Desktop 750-170se CTO – Drivers
  • Download and install the latest Realtek Wireless LAN Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit).
  • Restart your system after installation.

Reset TCP/IP stack

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Run the following commands one by one:
    netsh winsock reset
    netsh int ip reset
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /flushdns
  • Restart your desktop.

Test with static IP (optional)

  • Go to Network & Internet Settings > Change adapter options.
  • Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter > Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
  • Set a manual IP (e.g., 192.168.1.150), subnet mask (255.255.255.0), and gateway (e.g., 192.168.1.1).
  • Set DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Let me know if you'd like help accessing your T-Mobile gateway settings or testing with a USB Wi-Fi adapter for comparison.

If the issue persists after these steps, I can guide you through checking event logs or replacing the adapter with a dual-band model.
