That worked!  The exe file did not automatically install the driver - I had to manually direct the device to the folder where the SP65233 files were located but that did the trick.  Was this Smart Connect a feature on the new Intel 7260 Card?

Glad the driver worked.

Yes, sometimes you have to manually install the driver if the auto install method doesn't work.

It must have something to do with the Intel card.

This is what the HP driver description is:

This package provides the Intel Smart Connect Technology driver for supported models running a supported operating system. The Intel Smart Connect Technology driver enables the system to resume from sleep mode and update supported web applications such as email. The system enters sleep after the update is completed.

The info from Intel definitely indicates that it has something to do with installing an Intel Wi-Fi card.

Features and Requirements for Intel® Smart Connect Technology

If your computer is equipped with an Intel Wi-Fi card and Intel® PROSet/Wireless Wi-Fi Connection Utility, Intel Smart Connect Technology searches for Wi-Fi networks you have previously accessed. Your computer does not update until it recognizes a known Wi-Fi network. If you put your computer to sleep when it was not connected to the Internet, it will wake up the next time, only when it detects a known network that you have accessed earlier and to which you have previously connected to automatically.

It also appears that your PC's motherboard has support for this feature.

Thank you for all your help and quick responses.  Outstanding service from you and HP especially for these older machines that I like to keep running. (Bought it new in 2014)

You're most welcome.

It is great to keep older PC's running when they serve your purposes well.

It was a cheap and easy upgrade to circumvent W10's update glitches.

I've even installed Windows 11 on my older PC's that don't meet Microsoft's ridiculous hardware requirements to run W11.

They all run W11 just fine.

That way my PC's will have software support beyond the October 2025 Windows 10 end of support date.
