Hi there, I'm at the end of my rope with slow wifi speeds and hope someone might be able to be kind enough to offer some suggestions. I have an HP notebook with a Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter and Verizon FIOS service. With an ethernet connection I get 80 mbps from the 75 mbps package, but when it's wireless the speed goes down to 45-50mbps. We've switched routers. Is my wifi card capable of getting those speeds? I tried to change from the 2.4 ghz band to the 5 ghz band, but I guess that's not possible with my adapter. Am I stuck with non-blazing fast internet speeds. Greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

Please identify the HP Notebook model. You may think it is not relevant but it will help us understand the overall hardware environment and, more importantly, find the right model and see what HP has written about your wireless adapter.
An "n" adapter with a single antenna can theoretically get 150 mbps transfer speed but in reality it is much less likely more like the 45-50 you are seeing. I am not a big fan of the single antenna cards but almost impossible to upgrade. I hate to give this advice but you might think about a usb wireless dongle. They make them very small now and they can run in the 5 ghz band and much faster than what you are seeing. And they are inexpensive.

Thank you very much for your input! I'm headed in that direction, but your advice is just what I was looking for. I'm not terribly computer literate so I wanted to hear from the experts. You've been an immense help. Thanks again and have a great day.
