Realtek Wireless Latency on Battery

Good morning,

We have spent more than 2 days since Friday on WIFI and latency issues on the HP 250 G8 and HP 255 G8 ranges from HP.

What’s the basic incident?

• Users move on Wifi and battery to be as mobile as possible. However, pcs need access to local resources and this is where the problems arise

WAN: No latency issues accessing a resource outside of the network (Behind the Gateway).
LAN: If the station sends data we have very little latency, however there is a huge latency as soon as the station receives data from a server or a local station. This is the case for Citrix applications for example.

The latency problem does not occur as soon as a power source is connected to the 250 and 255. Except that we are no longer in a nomadic mode in this case

Based on this observation and after updating all the network components, systems and bios, the tests were carried out on several WIFI networks with different standards – 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz.
On the system side the power settings have all been set to Maximum Performance and the management of the watches for the devices have been disabled especially for the WIFI card.

Tonight our conclusion is that we are facing a problem of Realtek Wifi card (CE) on the 250 and 255:

- The 250 and 255 have a Realtek Wifi card. At first we thought about a problem on the terminals (WIFI 4 or WIFI 5) which was quickly discarded after other tests, then a problem on Windows 10 & 11.

- After searching several hours on Windows 10 & 11 (Registry, drivers, Bios, PowerCFG, device power settings, etc.), we agree that the problem is not related to the Windows 10 or Windows 11 operating system.

- I have installed an HP EliteBook 855 G8 with a Realtek CE card with all the drivers in the HP catalog, whether in Windows 11 or Windows 10, and we unfortunately reproduce the incident We have a latency of more than 200 ms on average from a ping of a local server on the device.

- The latency problem being observed only on local reception (LAN)

I then installed 2 devices an HP EliteBook 840 G6 and a Lenovo V15 G1 equipped with Intel Wi-Fi card with the same Windows settings and Wi-Fi power supply as the HP 250/255 G8, I have no problem receiving from a ping sent from a local server:

So we’re going to do one last test:
• We will order an Intel Wi-Fi card (if available) to replace a realtek on a problematic workstation (with dual antenna kit). This way:

o If the problem is solved, it will indicate a problem on the card itself or on its management.

Hi, I did extensive research on this and found out that a high latency of 200ms is less desirable and deemed “high ping.”

Getting an Intel Wifi Card may fix the problem, but in case you still run into problems with high latency on the Intel Wifi card, you can try these commands.

Here are the steps:

Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Now you see a list of folders: 0001, 0002, 0003 and so on... Click each folder until you see a key named 'AdapterModel' containing the name of your WLAN adapter.
Add 4 Dword values with the following names:

"ScanDisableOnLowTraffic"

"ScanDisableOnMediumTraffic"

"ScanDisableOnHighOrMulticast"

"ScanDisableOnLowLatencyOrQos"

5. Change their value date to 1 (hexadecimal)

As for the RealTek Wifi Card, try these commands before considering removing it.

try to reset network connections: Open PowerShell or CMD and run as administrator, copy and paste the following commands by pressing enter at the end of each command line:

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

netsh advfirewall reset

netsh winhttp>reset proxy

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

Restart the computer at the end of all commands.

If the problem persists, try these steps:

Settings> Network and Internet> Status, click Network Reset on the right side, follow the instructions.

Specify the version and build of Windows 10 and Firewall / Antivirus in use.

Also, the latency problems, could be as a result of a software like AutoCad on your system, When you install AutoCAD it also installs the autodesk desktop app. As it turns out this program is constantly doing a wifi scan, and when it does this it knock out your signal for a couple of seconds causing internet drop. But that is if you have an that app or a similar app on your system.

I do not have a key named "AdapterModel" in the registry of my wifi network card on the 250 G8 and 255 G8.

I still tried to add the DWORDs but it does not change the latency after restarting the device

Hi, @Haraxus the DWORDs registry entry is meant for the Intel Wifi Card, not the Realtek Wifi Adapter.

I only gave you those commands just in case you may experience high latency issues with the Intel Wifi Card.

The steps to try for the RealTek Wifi Adapter is below the DWORDs registry commands.

I will wait until my Intel wifi cards are received to do a test. However, I have no feedback from our partner HP on the subject. Hoping that this is not an incident related to the CE range of Realtek.
