HP Pavilion dv7-6b55dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The HP Pavilion dv7-6b55dx with latest W10 build has been suffering random wifi disconnects. I've tried to find 'new' drivers for this old laptop, but to no avail. I've gone through the steps of the HP virtual assistant with negative results. Even the external adapter drops connections. I've upgraded the router and range extender firmware. I've scanned the laptop with PCmatic and the TSA adware removal tool with negative results. Randomly, I also get a helpful tech tab asking me to call them for assistance. I use WPA encryption on the adapters, router and range extender; and use Windows Firewall.

@BeanerECMO1 Greetings from the HP Community!

Have you run a wireless card test on your device to identify if this is either a hardware or a software malfunction?

If not, let's start with that:

  • Turn the computer On and keep tapping F2 repeatedly on startup to enter system diagnostics.
  • Select the component test and run a wireless test on your computer.
    • FOR DETAILS & FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS, USE THIS LINK: CLICK HERE
    • (By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

If the test fails or does not detect the wireless card, you can try reseating the wireless module or refer to my private message for further instructions,

However, if the tests pass, restart your computer, then visit the HP website and use the product number of your device to download and install the wireless adapter from the list under the Windows OS you select.

  • If the issue persists, you may want to create a backup of all your important data into an external storage device and perform a system reset:
  • Refer to this HP Article for assistance.

Solution was to get a new router. Thanks for the help though. May use it in the future.
