My ISP provides me a download speed of 1000mbps and I am only able to get 94mbps with my HP laptop 17 Envy.  I apparently will need to change out my network adapter,  Realtek PCI FE Family Controller.  I would like to know if this is possible, or if  an external adapter will work.  If so, what would you recommend?  Thanks

You shouldn't have to disable the on-board ethernet unless you don't have a choice to select the USB  ethernet adapter to connect to.

You'd have to use a USB 3 to RJ45 gigabit ethernet adapter because the Realtek ethernet adapter is an integral part of the motherboard and cannot be upgraded.

Something like this:

Amazon.com: Amazon Basics USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Internet Adapter, Black : Electron...

Definitely cheap enough to give it a try.  Delivering tomorrow.

Would I need to remove the Realtec network card from the device manager, or does it just bypass that one?
