Hello HP Community,

I am experiencing significantly reduced Wi-Fi speeds on my HP Victus 15 (model 15-fb3xxx) laptop, even though the latest driver updates for the Wi-Fi adapter have been installed. Here are the full details:

System and network details:

  • System model: HP Victus 15-fb3xxx

  • Wireless adapter: Realtek RTL8852BE-VT Wireless LAN WiFi 6 PCI-E NIC (Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_B520&SUBSYS_88E9103C&REV_00)

  • ISP connection: I have a 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps) internet plan from my service provider.

  • Other device status: Another computer in the same home network achieves expected high speeds (near the full ISP plan) without issue.

  • Issue description:

    • On this laptop via Wi-Fi, I only get around ~40 Mbps download speed, which is far below what the hardware (WiFi 6) and my ISP plan should allow.

    • I have verified the adapter is correctly recognized, driver appears up to date, yet Wi-Fi speed remains low.

Troubleshooting I have already done:

  • Confirmed the correct adapter model.

  • Updated driver via Device Manager and from appropriate sources.

  • Checked and applied suggested settings (5 GHz band, power management settings, preferred band).

  • Made sure no background downloads or other devices are hogging the network at the time of testing.

  • Tested speed on another device in the same network—works fine there.

Request for help:
Could someone please assist with the following:

  • Are there specific driver versions, BIOS updates, or HP-recommended settings for the Realtek RTL8852BE-VT on the Victus 15-fb3xxx that reliably allow WiFi to reach expected speeds (hundreds of Mbps range) rather than ~40 Mbps?

  • Are there known design limitations or firmware patches for this adapter specifically on HP machines?

  • What further diagnostics should I run (e.g., check router settings, channel width, card-firmware mismatch) to isolate whether this is a router/adapter/firmware issue rather than ISP or network load?

I understand your HP Victus 15 laptop is receiving very slow Wi-Fi speeds (~40 Mbps) despite having a Wi-Fi 6 adapter and a 1 Gbps internet connection. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

 

a. Check Wi-Fi Band and Channel Width

Ensure your laptop is connected to the 5 GHz band (not 2.4 GHz).

Go to Device Manager > Network adapters > Realtek RTL8852BE-VT > Properties > Advanced tab.

Set Preferred Band = 5 GHz

Set Channel Width for 5GHz = 80 MHz (or Auto)

Set Wireless Mode = 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6)

 

b. Disable Power Saving for Wi-Fi Adapter

Still in the adapter properties, go to the Power Management tab.

Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”

Then go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced settings.

Under Wireless Adapter Settings > Power Saving Mode, set both On battery and Plugged in = Maximum Performance.

 

c. Reset Network & TCP/IP Stack

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run these one by one:

netsh int ip reset   

netsh winsock reset   

ipconfig /flushdns

Restart your laptop and reconnect to Wi-Fi.

 

d. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Open HP Support Assistant or visit support.hp.com.

Enter your model Victus 15-fb3xxx and download/install:

Latest BIOS update

AMD/Intel chipset driver

Realtek Wi-Fi driver (if available from HP, not just Windows Update)

 

e. Router Settings to Check

Ensure your router supports Wi-Fi 5/6 (802.11ac/ax) and is not limited to 20 MHz channel width.

Enable 80 MHz or 160 MHz channel width for the 5 GHz band.

Enable WPA2/WPA3 security (avoid WPA/WEP).

Disable QoS or bandwidth-limiting settings if enabled.

Hi, I already tried all the things you mentioned but problem did not solved. Additionaly, we tried a lot of solutions with the live-chat HP Support guy for 1.5 hours but nothing has changed. I do not know what to do. I need help.
