Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Problem: A wireless intruder or hacker or maybe Google+ or Google Drive has access to my folders and moves them to my trash bin occasionally. My Google apps can be accessed only in my Gmail and I do not remember synching anything using these apps. I use Waterfox browser and do not have a Chrome installed either. My Windows 10 Edge browser is down after the Windows 10 anniversary update. I noticed this intrusion about midyear of 2015. I felt it was not a threat until now when it has become more often than occasionally. I noticed that the movement or transfer of my files happens when I am not online and not connected to the internet at all. I know this because I always check my trashbin before turning off my notebook. Could anyone in the network I use to access the internet be responsible for this breach or one of my neighbors be wirelessly doing this but I make sure my wifi is off and also file sharing is off.

Security: My firewall is on, my Avast Realtime protection (free edition) is on, I run my Malwarebytes anti-malware (free edition) regularly, and I also run my Super AntiSpyware (free edition) regularly as well.

Users: I am the only one who use this laptop and no one else has access to my account. I live alone and no one has access to my notebook but me. My network connection is an internet plug that is dial-up connect on Smart Telecom in the Philippines. I disconnect the internet access plug when I am not accessing the internet. I use a wired mouse and this intrusion started last year that occasionally moves folders and movies into my trash bin. Although I used a wireless G9 mouse for several months last year but switched back to a wired mouse last quarter of last year to present.

Solution?: Are there better antisypware, malwarebytes, and anti virus that could remove this threat? I also have a 1tb WD HDD that I connect to the laptop to watch movies. I also occasionally connect HP and Sandisk flashdrives to transfer files.

@namor

You've done a remarkable job performing the steps suggested earlier, great work 🙂

And don't worry, as we should be able to fix this up with a few more steps and I'll be with you until we ensure this issue is fixed.

I understand you've followed most of what was suggested earlier, it's important to remove anything you don't personally use to keep your computer safe,

That said, please keep anything that says HP as that recommended by the manufacturer and remove the rest.

Avast is your anti-virus so you could leave that as well.

Winamp is a music player, if you didn't install it - please remove it.

Also, in such scenarios it's either a system reset or a recovery that resolves the issue, hence I recommend you do a full scan on all of your folders, create a backup of your important data into either an external USB drive or DVD before you initiate the recovery program as mentioned earlier: Click here for assistance.

Keep me posted,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hi @namor,

Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are facing an issue with your computer, where some of your folders get moved to trash automatically, with you syncing any of them. I would like to provide my suggestion.

Have you checked the startup items on your computer?

Recommend you to open task manager by doing a right-click on the taskbar on the bottom.

Any unknown applications listed in the startup items, please disable them and check.

If the issue persists, please backup your data and perform a reset on the computer without loss of data.

After reset, if you continue to face the issue, please perform a recovery on the computer. Click here for assistance.

In terms of anti-virus, you can use the defender included in the computer for free from Microsoft. Apart from defender you can use any 3rd party anti-virus of your choice.

Keep me posted.

I have no idea why empty folders in my Video folder where I assign youtube downloads are periodically moved to  my trash bin although I do not move them there.

According to some people who have Google+ and Google Drive downloaded to their desktop, this occasionally happens due to interaction between the two after synching. I have none of those two Google apps in my desktop except found inside my Gmail.

This movement of my empty folders occur mostly when I am offline which negates the possibility of a hacker doing this action.

My Task Manager -Startup shows only the following:
-Avast
-Delayed launcher
-f. lux
-Hp Accelerometer System Tray
-Winamp

What do you suggest I disable among them?
Again, thanks for your assistance. I appreciate it.

Thanks for your advice.
