Thanks for you reply.
Again I'm sorry to tell that even the downgrade did not do the trick (see below). I downloaded version 1.1.2.1 from the link you provided, but device manager tells me version 1.0.7.1 is installed.
Addidionally, instead of the light being constantly blue after resuming hibernation/sleep, the light is now constantly red (right from the start) no matter if airplane mode is on or off.

@Marcel93, Thanks for your response and time.
I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.
As you mentioned after downgrading the wireless button driver the light constantly stays red.
I would suggest you try performing a system restore on PC and check if it helps.
Refer this article to know how to perform a system restore on your PC.
Let me know how it goes!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Thank you for your reply.
I don't think that a restoreor the driver downgrade solves the problem. The problem occured from the day I installed the Anniversary Update. Prior to this, there was no problem with the Wireless Button (with the latest release of the driver). And it has not worked ever since.
It seems that the driver is not acting properly when resuming sleep/hibernation.
I inserted some images showing the driver version and showing that after sleep/hibernation, the button doesn't work (but before it does)
Is there a possibility to monitor its behavior e.g. via event protocol or anything similar? And if yes, could you please provide some information on this?
Thanks in advance.

@Marcel93, thanks for your response and time.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.
I would suggest you uninstall the wireless drivers from device manager.
And install the wireless driver and wireless button driver from recovery manager and check if it helps.
Refer this article to know how to install drivers using recovery manager.
Let me know how it goes!
Have a pleasant day ahead! 🙂

@Marcel93, Thanks for your quick response and time.
As you mentioned your unit was shipped with windows 8 and you don't see recovery manager.
Did you upgrade your laptop from windows 8 to windows 10 from the windows update?
Or did you install a retail copy of windows 10 on your PC?
Every HP laptop that is shipped it goes with a recovery partition on it. Even though if you did upgrade from windows 8 to windows 10. The recovery partition should be intact.
If you have purchased a retail copy of operating system, You can contact microsoft regarding this issue.
Or please contact HP and order a set of recovery discs.

Thanks & Regards

Yes I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 and then to 10. Each version set a partition for its recovery (the last time I installed Windows 10, I deleted those partitions and Windows 10 created its own again as usually). And this was just 5 weeks ago.
There was a HP_tools partition apart from the above mentioned ones, but this had to be the HP Hardware diagnostics because since I deleted this partition, I can't access this diagnostics tool.
And also it isn't the key that shipped with my device, I purchased Windows 8 Pro and I still use the Pro version of Windows today.

@Marcel93, Thanks for your response and time.
I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.
Why did you delete the recovery partition?
As you mentioned even after performing a system recovery using the recovery discs the issue still persists.
It looks to be a hardware issue, please contact HP support for service options.

First of all, thank you for your reply.
Why did I delete the recovery partition?
It's because I finally wanted to have system and data separated in two partitions. To archive this I had to delete all partitions because Windows has tight restrictions on how to archieve this. And the more important reason was that
- I never wanted to go back to Windows 8(.1),
- I have a recovery Windows 10 image (always the latest ISO available through media creation tool, and that's NOT provided by HP for my notebook series),
- also that all driver are available via HP support homepage or since Windows 10 almost all via Windows Update.
And finally, I still don't remember a recovery manager by HP, I always used (and was asked to use in HP documents) the Refresh or Factory Reset provided by Windows itself.
Concerning your suggestion that it might be a hardware fault:
It's strange that it works to the point where it is shut down/put to sleep/hibernated. And in addition to this behavior, it's quite strange that other driver lead to a completely non-functional button.
It rather looks like a driver issue with the specific notebook series' (Envy Touchsmart 15 j000 series) wireless button connected to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
I really think that going back to a pre-Anniversary Update version, the button would still work. So I highly think it is a compatibility issue. Maybe there is a new driver update available sometime (soon) to add this compatibility.
@Alessandro2, have you tried the steps MrRobot suggested? Are you also still facing the issue?

@Marcel93, Thanks for your quick response and time.
Kudos to you for trying out the steps found a service advisory related to the issue.
After a System Reset is performed, the HP Wireless Button Driver is no longer installed.
The computer may exhibit one or more of the following symptoms:
Device Manager indicates there is a problem with the driver, or it is not installed.
The F12 key (Airplane mode) does not work.
The information in this document applies to the following:
Computers:
HP ENVY TouchSmart Notebook PC
Operating Systems:
Microsoft Windows 10 Home (32-bit)
Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-bit)
Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)
Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (32-bit)
To resolve this issue, run Windows Update to download and install the latest driver, or reinstall the HP Wireless Button Driver from Recovery Manager.
Launch HP Recovery Manager from all apps.
Select-> HP Help and Support -> HP Recovery Manager.
Select Reinstall drivers and/or applications in the list.
Select HP Wireless Button Driver.
Select Install.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Restart the computer after installation is completed.
Since you don't have a recovery partition on your laptop anymore, you have to downgrade the operating system to windows 8.1 using the recovery discs.
Hope this answers your query!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂
